Welcome to Dana Point, California.
Dana Point sits midway between Los Angeles and San Diego amid the rolling hills and coastal bluffs of the Pacific Ocean. Considered one of the most romantic spots in California, the man-made harbor at Dana Point attracts thousands of visitors each year. The scenery is magnificent, especially from a promontory bluff known as "The Headlands," which overlooks Dana Point Harbor.
Dana Point is a city located in southern Orange County, California. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 35,110. As one of the few harbors along the Orange County coast, and with ready access via California State Route 1, it is a popular local destination.
The city was named after the headland of Dana Point, which was in turn named for Richard Henry Dana, Jr., author of Two Years Before the Mast, which included a description of the area. Although Dana describes the anchorage as poor, it is the best available in the vicinity, and there is a developed harbor.
Dana Point Harbor
You will find everything here, including a marina with 2,500 boat slips, complete harbor facilities, boat rentals, fishing, sailing, windsurfing, jet skiing, kayaking, swimming, walking or playing on the beach. Shopping is a fun activity in Dana Point at the Mariners Alley and Mariners Village, as well as dozens of interesting shops at the Dana Point Harbor.
You'll find everything from art and collectibles, custom made jewelry, designer sunglasses and clothing, premium ice creams, t-shirts and trinkets. Whale watching is popular at Dana Point December through March, and the annual "Festival of Whales," is held each March. Several whale-watching excursions are available from Dana Point Harbor.
Dana Point offers so much to see and do; your only problem will be finding enough time to enjoy this incredibly beautiful seaside town!

Who will be our next Orange County Sheriff?
The Total Buzz blog has released a list of the finalists to replace disgraced former O.C. Sheriff Mike Carona. Here is the list that Total Buzz published: They are Glendale Police Chief Randy Adams, OC Acting Sheriff Jack Anderson, Salt Lake County Undersheriff Beau Babka, San Bernardino County Undersheriff Richard Beemer, retired OC Sheriff's Lt. Bill Hunt, Anaheim PD Deputy Chief Craig Hunter, retired LA County Sheriff's Division Chief Sandra Hutchens, LA Sheriff's Commander Ralph Martin, and Santa Ana Police Chief Paul Walters. I am glad they put Walters last. That's about where he should be. I also don't think Bill Hunt has a chance in Hell, not after the way his campaign adviser Tim Whitacre went after Supervisor Janet Nguyen when she recently sought the OC GOP endorsement. For Whitacre to go after an incumbent Supervisor while his buddy Hunt needed her support was beyond retarded. Once again Whitacre destroyed Hunt's chances of being our next Sheriff. As for the other candidates, I think Anderson has been doing a fine job as our interim Sheriff, but I also think it would be a good idea to bring in new blood to the department. I would prefer to see an outsider get the job so the heads at the OC Sheriff's Department can start rolling. The corruption in that department is astounding. Already many of Carona's handpicked assistants have had to resign in shame. That said, I think Ralph Martin (pictured above) would be a terrific Sheriff for Orange County. He has far more experience than most of the others on the list and he has worked in a much larger department than most of the other candidates. He has my full endorsement and I hope he gets the job.
